It really depends on what you want to do. Some things are better some things are worse. Usually new rpg maker version take a while for plugins to kick in. I am using some large battlers in RPG MV and its ok. For battlers it doesn't matter the size, as long as you keep the same "box" layout.

You must put the new sprite in the folder of the type of combat view you want in your project or it won't show up :) For character sprites, drop them in your character folder. (Mac, windows or linux) If the recources don't show up in your database, close RPG maker and re-open it. You can also use copy- paste in your operating system. The easiest way is click the Recourse Manager on your taskbar, then select what you want to import, and then click DLC, and select the files in the folder corresponding with the right name.
